Sidra, who lives in Hayes, first came to Grow two years ago, looking for help to find a job. With no UK work experience and little confidence using technology, she wasn’t sure where to begin. But through tailored support with her CV, interview preparation, and access to short training courses, Sidra has built the skills and confidence she needed to take her next steps.
She is now working part-time as a support worker in a women’s mental health service, providing medication and emotional support during night shifts. It’s a role she enjoys, and one she hopes to build on, as she continues learning.
“Grow helped me a lot,” Sidra said. “They showed me how to write a CV and helped me with job interviews. I didn’t have experience, but they supported me every step of the way.”
Even though Sidra is now in work, she is still part of the Grow community. Most recently, she’s been taking part in our Grow Digital short courses which are funded by AKG, and designed to help women feel more confident using technology in everyday life and at work.
“Before, I didn’t know how to use a computer. Now I’ve learned how to start it, save documents, send emails and use online information,” she explained. “The first course helped me with the basics. Now I’m doing the next course to learn even more.”
Sidra has also completed an introduction to AI as part of Grow Digital, learning how tools like ChatGPT can help with daily tasks and job applications.
She credits the Grow team, especially Saeema and Sheeja, with helping her stay motivated and supported. “They have helped me with job searching and applications when I have come into the office in Hayes and even now I have a job, they’re still here for me. I want to keep improving my skills so I can take on more shifts or find a full-time role in the future. I have grown so much in confidence since joining Grow and am really enjoying my new job.”
