Grow and Peepul Enterprise Supporting Women in Leicester
This autumn, Grow has been working in partnership with the Peepul Centre in Leicester to deliver Grow Digital workshops for women who are rebuilding their lives after experiencing domestic abuse.
The workshops have been offered as part of the Peepul Centre’s wider support for women who have completed counselling and are now looking to move forward – whether that’s into work, training, or simply building confidence in a safe, supportive environment.
Shabana, Health and Operations Associate at the Peepul Centre, has worked with Grow in the past during her time at Shama Women’s Centre and was pleased to reconnect.
“When Kaneez got in touch again, the timing was perfect. Every time Grow reappears, it seems to be just when the support is most needed,” she said.
The Grow Digital sessions explored how women could use tools like transcription, translation, and AI-assisted writing in their day-to-day lives. For some, this included completing job applications or helping them curate letters for things like housing repairs. For others, it was a first introduction to digital tools that could help them communicate more confidently in English.
“Some of the women we support don’t speak English as a first language,” said Shabana. “The workshop showed them how they could speak in their own language, get it translated and written clearly, and use that to ask for help, apply for jobs or fill in forms. It made them feel included and gave them a sense of control.”
Shabana praised the delivery, particularly Kaneez’s ability to engage women with varying levels of digital confidence and language skills. Participants were also shown how to access additional learning and support through the Grow app, which they can continue using in their own time.
Looking ahead, the Peepul Centre plans to continue working with Grow and open up future sessions to more women across Leicester.
Shabana added: “I want to say thank you to Kaneez, Liz, Mercedes and the whole Grow team. Your support always arrives at the right time, and it really is making a difference to the women we support.”
