We’re proud to share that our Director, Liz Sewell FIEP, gave oral evidence today (Tuesday 23 April) at the Work and Pensions Select Committee as part of its inquiry into “Get Britain Working: Reforming Jobcentres.”
This was a key opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges women face when trying to return to work and to advocate for more inclusive, flexible employment support.
Liz spoke from Belina Grow’s extensive experience supporting women who are furthest from the labour market — including those balancing caring responsibilities, dealing with low confidence, or navigating complex barriers to employment.
We also submitted written evidence to the inquiry, highlighting what works and where change is needed to make employment services truly inclusive:

Speaking after the session Liz said “It was an absolute honour to appear before the Work and Pensions Select Committee – Get Britain Working: Reforming Jobcentres – with this incredible group of people: Abdi Mohamed, Head of Policy, Campaigns and Public Affairs at Scope; Balbir Kaur Chatrik, Director of Policy and Communications at Centrepoint; and Sam Reid Research Manager at Migrant Help.
Our individual evidence really played off each other and together we made a strong case for specialist support, more time, and an holistic approach that focused on the needs of the individual.
I also focused on the work of the employability sector and its commitment to excellence and partnership.
